Back on My Feet Again

We may think we are indestructible - until we manage to catch the flu. I've been sick since Sunday and am now able to sit in my chair and type again. Yes, I got the vaccine, and yes I just got the flu anyway. Obviously, this blog is not about my health (although Tend is my word for the year). But, this post is about my recent absence.

Monday's gorgeous weather as seen from the couch
I do not get sick often, but it sure puts things into perspective. Monday we had the most beautiful weather yet, and I got to enjoy it from the couch. Monday was also the day I'd planned to go plant shopping. I had gone to Fred Meyer's nursery last week to see what they had for sale. They had a number of interesting plants among the spring bulbs, but they also had veggies.

I restrained myself and did not buy a single plant, knowing I would go a little crazy and buy too much. So I planned what I wanted and even planned a blog post showing the container I chose etc. Well, the weather is now back to normal: rainy, windy and cold. I haven't made it to the store, so my goal for Monday is now my goal for the week - growing salad veggies in containers at home.

Not only did getting sick impact my plans, it slowed me down to a crawl. After sleeping on and off for days, I would wake up thinking about things that really mattered. All of the extra stuff in my head was cleared out to the very basic. So I feel like I've been re-booted and am just not yet running at full capacity (this may have to do with lack of coffee).

This morning I got up and looked at my e-mail, Facebook, and finally Flickr. It's easy enough to not really see this stuff when you look at it a lot. When I went to Flickr I looked at a slide show of the 2012 All-Purpose Flower photos. It was the first time I'd done that. After looking at those photos I saw that I still need to focus on vines for our back yard, both shade and sun. I also saw a lot of possibilities using hanging baskets there. So once I regain my momentum I've got a couple of ideas for future blog posts.

  1. Hi Valerie,
I'm glad you are feeling better! I love the layout of your blog and great photos! While I'm not a gardener, I have bookmarked it as I would like to spruce up my yard a bit and I bet you have a lot of tips here for that!
Thank you so much for your kind words on my blog this morning. I really appreciate it!
    Sincerely,
    Jen Pitta
