Vancouver, Food, and the Library

A month ago we went to the new Vancouver Community Library to see a film sponsored by the Vancouver Watersheds Alliance. I didn't know about the event, Chris' sister-in-law in Portland, OR sent him an e-mail about it to see if we'd like to go.  Turns out this group had been having a film festival and this would be the last one.

It was the first time I'd been to the new library that is about a year old. Since we had time before the movie Chris took us up to see the roof top garden, which they call the "5th floor outdoor terrace".  That alone was worth seeing.

The film on locally grown food was pretty good, they served pizza, even some gluten free, and then had Q&A afterward. I walked away with some flyers for the Vancouver Watersheds Alliance, Clark County Food Bank, and one I found the most interesting - Gleaning Clark County. I wasn't aware of an organized program here in Vancouver, this is a joint effort between Clark County Food Bank and Urban Abundance, a group I've been hearing about lately.

I'm going to look into the gleaning program and a fruit tree program a bit more later, sounds interesting. I'd like to learn more about both of these groups.
